form

Participants, in groups, choose a system for their design and evaluation work. In the period from September to mid-November the participants may receive start-up supervision (integrated in the HCI course). The AHCI course itself runs in the four-week period from mid-November to mid-December. The overall schedule of the four-week period is: sketching alternatives iteration (Week 1), drawing on existing knowledge iteration (Week 2), refining the design iteration (Week 3), and writing the report (Week 4). The course will be in English, unless all participants are Danish speakers.

Indhold

The course is a continuation of the HCI course, during which participants – individually or in groups – have evaluated a system. This evaluation is the starting point for the AHCI course. During the four weeks of the AHCI course, participants complete three iterations of design and evaluation on the system they have previously evaluated, and they document their work in a report. The iterations focus on the visual and interaction design of the system, that is on the interface between the system and its users. Through the three iterations the focus of the design and evaluation work becomes increasingly refined: • Sketching alternatives. The creation of multiple alternatives is a fundamental technique for exploring a design space. At this exploratory stage the prototypes will be low-fidelity and the evaluation will focus on the concept, not the details. • Drawing on existing knowledge. The work of others provides a rich source of design proposals and knowledge about what may work. During this iterati

One or two days a week in the period from November 25 - December 18 2013.

mål

The AHCI course aims to provide participants with:
• Knowledge of visual and interaction design, acquired through experience • Competence in working systematically with the visual presentation of information, such as the layout of screens and the presentation of information that results from searching and filtering • Competence in working systematically with interaction, that is with the means of navigating interfaces, selecting objects, and inputting information • Competence in low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototyping with Axure • Experience in doing design work in short iterations • Experience in using evaluation to guide design processes

Materialer

The course literature is yet to be decided. For the drawing on existing knowledge iteration, participants will themselves be required to find literature of relevance to their design work.
