More often than not it is not the technology that decides whether or not an implementation is a success. Rather, the success relies just as often on contextual factors like structure and culture of the organisation, choice of change agents, expectations etc. The purpose of the course is to provide the students with a theoretical platform in order to comprehend and handle many of the challenges that will occur when working as a consultant, a business analyst, or a systems developer. The goal of the course is to make the students able to perform individual analyses of IS in organisational contexts and be able to pinpoint inappropriate factors and positive driving forces that all impact the implementation and usage of IS in organisations.

Indhold

The quality of the process of organisational implementation, adaptation, and usage of Information Systems (IS) is a crucial factor for the long-term success of an organisational IS. This course will provide the students with a theoretical input on those factors, or the lack there of, that influence how ISs are used in an organisation. The course will revolve around the following: • Models of organisations • Theories on implementation and adaptation of IS • Concepts of correlation between IS and organisational change • Development and usage of IS The course will support regular projects and master theses within IS development, IS implementation, and IS usage, as well as the area of HCI. Throughout the course we will draw on a consistent case study and provide examples of work contexts where the above-mentioned theories are illustrated and applied. The theories will be shown to be applicable within a multitude of different work domains.

Kursusdage

Thursdays from 1.00 - 5.15 p.m. in the period from 4. September to 20. November 2013

kursusform

The course is organised so each lecture consists of one or more students presenting the prepared material for the rest of the class to discuss various insights and points in relation to previous material. The lectures resemble mini seminars and we attempt to make as intimate and comfortable a learning environment as possible.

litteratur

• Rogers, E.M. (2003). Diffusion of Innovations, 5th Edition, Free Press, New York. • Part of the course is to teach the students to find state-of-the-art literature themselves and as such the primary part of the course literature will be available online. For those articles not available online, a compendium can be bought.
